With over 95 malls that include a formidable choice of brands, from high-street to high-end, it is, with no doubt, the fashion capital of the region. As an Islamic country, Dubai culture is no different from the Muslims' culture and many restaurants and cafes close during daylight hours in Ramadan period.

What documentation do I need to enter Dubai?
Find out about the entry requirements according to your country of origin here:

How can I get to Dubai?
By plane to Dubai International Airport (DXB), located about 5km from the centre. Flights take about 7 hours from western Europe and 17 from New York.

How can I get from the airport to the centre?
The best way is the Metro. The red line stops at terminals 1 and 3. Buses leave terminals 1, 2 and 3 but are slower.

When is the best time to travel?
From October to May because they are the coolest months. Temperatures in Dubai are always high, but the rest of the year is extremely hot and dry, with temperatures surpassing 40°C (104°F).

How can I get around the city?
The best way is to hire a car or use a taxi to get around. Distances tend to be long and public transport does not reach everywhere. Besides, the prices are reasonable.

What public transport can I use?
Dubai has two metro lines (red and green), a bus network and tram service that connects the metro stations to the residential zones. There are also water taxis, monorail and abras (traditional wooden passenger boats).

Is it a good place to go with children?
You will find an infinite number of places to enjoy with youngsters; there are several amusement parks and the majority of shopping centres have areas exclusively designed for children. They will love the Aquarium and Ski Dubai.

How should I dress?
Some places (particularly restaurants and shops) have a dress code that must be followed. Normally, women are required to cover their heads before entering a mosque. Going topless on the beach is not allowed.

How should I behave in public?
Despite being one of the most liberal places in the Muslim Middle East, there are certain points you must take into account in Dubai: it is considered disrespectful to show affection in public, even holding hands. Being drunk can be cause for arrest.

What do I need to know about Ramadan?
During the day you cannot eat, smoke or drink in public. Many restaurants only open after sunset. In general, international hotel restaurants stay open to cater to tourists.
