Muir Woods National MonumentHome to the ancient redwoods
This park takes its name from Muir, a respected US naturalist and lover of trees. It retains a huge number of redwoods, specimens of staggering size and longevity, living for thousands of years. Various hiking trails run through the woods along which you’ll come across caves hollowed out in some of the trunks by past fires, among other curiosities. The woods are open every day of the year fom 08:00 or 09:00 and can be reached by shuttle bus from Francisco.
