Monterey, Carmel and Big SurTreasures of the south
This trip starts to the south of San Francisco, in Monterey, a coastal city that lives off tourism and fishing, and home of the famous Laguna Seca motorsport track. Fifteen minutes away is Carmel-by-the-Sea, chosen by Franciscan priest Junípero Serra as his second mission site in California, and where he is buried. Actor and director Clint Eastwood was mayor of the city from 1986 to 1988. The route ends in Big Sur with the views from Bixby Creek Bridge at the edge of the seaside cliffs.
