Ghirardelli Square takes its name from the chocolate factory once headquartered there, the third oldest in the country. Today, a huge store occupies the lower floors of the Clock Tower, in the middle of the square, where you can see how the chocolate is made and taste the delicacy, offered at the door. You’ll also find other shops in the square, including Helpers’ Homes Bazaar, Les Mechantes and Yap, and pubs and restaurants with varied menus. All with views overlooking the ever-present San Francisco Bay.
