Circular temple containing the tombs of several Italian kings as well as Raphael’s. With a portico of 16 Corinthian columns and an 8.7m dome, this is a unique feat of engineering.

Piazza del Popolo

Circular square with an Egyptian obelisk in the centre known as the Flaminio Obelisk. The church that has lent its name to this square hides two works by Caravaggio. Interesting restaurants can be found in the surrounding area for a spot of lunch. Try Margutta or All’Oro.

Villa Borghese

The Borghese Gallery is perhaps one of the most fascinating museums, but you need to book. The artistic line-up says it all: Bernini, Caravaggio, Titian and Raphael. You should venture into the Villa Borghese park until you reach the Pincio Gardens.

Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano
