This is the State Fine Arts Museum and the second most important after the Hermitage at St. Petersburg. The architectural complex comprises six buildings where more than 500,000 works of art (from ancient times to the present day) are exhibited. They include Egyptian mummies, sarcophagi, Roman vessels, Greek sculptures, medieval manuscripts and paintings from the 16th to the 20th century by artists the likes of Botticelli, Rembrandt, Monet, Renoir, Picasso, Van Gogh and Matisse.
