Marx MonumentThe father of communism sculpted in stone

A tribute to the German thinker, the monument was the idea of Lenin, although he never saw it come to fruition. After a first frustrated attempt, the work was finally carried out by sculptor Lev Kerbel, who depicted Marx emerging from a massive block of granite. The statue was unveiled in 1961 before high-ranking members of the communist party and the Soviet government.
