Whitworth Art GalleryContemporary art in an award-winning setting
Just yards from the hubbub of Oxford Road, Manchester's second most popular gallery offers a space for retreat and reflection in the midst of Whitworth Park. Founded in 1889, it's best known for its modern and contemporary art, with works by Lucien Freud and David Hockney displayed alongside the sculptures of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. There are even galleries devoted to historic textiles and intricate wallpapers. Following a £15m revamp, it was named the UK's 2015 Museum of the Year.
