The official language in Lisbon is Portuguese.
Currency
The legal currency in Lisbon and throughout Portugal is the euro (€). There are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500€ notes and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent and 1€ and 2€ coins.
Electricity
The voltage in Portugal is 230 V. Plugs and sockets are type F, like in the rest of Europe and parts of Asia. If you are coming from another country, you’ll need an adaptor.
Lisbon Card
Valid for public transport and gives free or discounted access to museums, monuments and entertainment venues. Available for 24, 48 or 72 hours. Adults: 18.50€/31.50€/39€. Children (4 to 11 years): 11.50€/17.50€/20.50€.
Other transport cards
The 7 Colinas or Viva Viagem card is a rechargable card that gives you discounts on public transport. It costs 0.50€ and is valid for one year. You can get one from newsagents, metro stations and accredited stores.
Business hours
From Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 19:00. Shopping centers may stay open until midnight.
