How can I get to Lisbon?
The best way to get to Lisbon is by plane (Lisbon Portela airport, 7 kilometers from the center), but if you prefer the train, they run daily from Madrid, Hendaye and Paris.
How do I get from the airport to the center?
Metro: Airport Metro station (red line). The trip costs 1.40€. Aerobus (line 91): daily from 07:45 to 20:15. Route: Airport - Praça do Comércio. Buses: 5, 22, 44, 45 and 83.
When is the best time to travel?
Lisbon is one of the hottest European capitals, so any time of the year is good. Autumn and Winter are mild, though with frequent rain and wind, but in general there are plenty of sunny days.
How can I get around the city?
The fastest way is by metro, although it doesn’t get to the Belém and Alfama tourist areas. The tram is also a tourist attraction. The bus is the cheapest option and routes are extensive.
Which are the best areas for accommodation?
Avenida de la Libertad, Praça do Rossio and Praça do Comercio have a wide range of options and are close to all public transport.
Is it worthwhile traveling with children?
Absolutely. There’s lots of fun to be had in places like the Park of the Nations (Oceanarium, Pavilion of Knowledge, cable car), Kidzania theme park or the zoo, for example.
Is tipping mandatory?
No, but it’s expected. It’s usual to leave between 5% and 10% if you are satisfied with the service.
What are the normal restaurant hours?
They normally open from 12:30 to 15:00 and from 19.30 to 22:30-23:00. It’s best not to be late because some restaurant kitchens close at 14:00 or at 22:00 or they may run out of fresh produce.
Is smoking allowed?
In 2004 smoking in public places was prohibited throughout Portugal, although the majority of shopping centers and hotels have areas for smokers.
