Time Zone
Standard time in Lanzarote is UTC, the same as GMT, but from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October the time is GMT +1.
Language
The official language is Spanish.
Currency
Lanzarote, like the rest of Spain, uses the euro. There are 5€, 10€, 20€, 50€, 100€, 200€, 500€ notes and 1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent, 1€ and 2€ coins.
Electricity
Electrical devices in Spain run on 220 volts, connected by two-pin or “Schuko” plugs so you may need an adapter; universal is best.
Transport
You can use the Intercity bus to get around. They operate numerous routes between the main towns. Most visitors choose to rent a car to move around between the islands. The main car hire companies are Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas.
Tourist Centre Vouchers
Six-centre voucher: Montañas del Fuego, Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes, Jardín de Cactus, Mirador del Río, Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo and MIAC-Castillo de San José. Cost: 30€, adults, 15€, children from 7 to 12 years.
Shopping hours
Most shops open at 10:00 and, since 2014, stay open until 22:00 without closing for lunch. In the tourist zones, they stay open all day on Sundays and holidays.
Holidays
The same national holidays as the rest of the country, plus 30 May, Canaries Day, and on Lanzarote, September 15 (Our Lady of Sorrows). There are also holidays for the local carnivals and festivals to take into account.
Tourism Offices
In Arrecife, in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park. From Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 17:00; and Saturdays, from 10:00 to 13:00; in Costa Teguise, on Islas Canarias Avenue, from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 17:00, and Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 to 15:30; at the airport (T1), daily from 8:30 to 20:30, and at Muelle de los Mármoles, for three hours after the arrival of each cruise ship.

Traffic Regulations
The maximum speed limit on national roads is 90 km/h and in urban areas 60 km/h.
Health
Lanzarote has the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital (928 59 50 00), as well as private clinics and medical centres both in the northern and southern tourist hubs and in the capital.
Can I drink the water?
Tap water comes from desalination plants and is perfectly drinkable. However, if the taste is not to your liking, you can find a large variety of bottled water in any convenience store.
