Roman HippodromeFrom chariots to charming meeting place
Originally, in the Byzantine period, it was the hub of sporting life in Constantinople, particularly for chariot racing. Today in the cobbled square you’ll find some vestiges of its former self: the Serpent Column, the Obelisk of Theodosius, and the Walled Obelisk. There is also a German fountain built in 1900. It is located at the side of the Blue Mosque.
