Electricity
In Spain, electrical devices operate with 220 volts, connected to sockets with two-pin or Schuko plugs. If you need an adapter, universal is best.
Transport Cards
The multi-ride ticket for the urban guaguas lets you move around the city. You can use the Global non-contact card for longer distances around the island.
Business Hours
In general, businesses open from Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 22:00. Shops also open on the first Sunday of the month.
National Holidays
Gran Canaria has its own holidays on 30 May, which is the Day of the Canary Islands, and 8 September, for the Virgin of the Pine festival.
Tourism Offices
The Tourist Board offices are right in the city (Triana, 93). There are also information points in the south in Maspalomas (Avenida Tirajana, 1); at Playa del Inglés (Paseo Marítimo-Centro Comercial Anexo II, # 20).
Health
If you’re traveling from a European Union country, you should have a European Health Card. Travelers from other countries are advised to take out travel insurance.
