Red Light DistrictUndergoing change

Although it’s currently getting a major facelift, Amsterdam's Red Light District is still famous for its sex shops and brothels, where prostitutes pose in the display windows lining the streets. The district's name comes from the red lights that illuminate these premises. The city council wants to reduce the number of these establishments and promote another kind of tourism for this part of the city centre, in the area around Warmoesstraat.
